Among other things, the exclusive watchmaker and jewellers Cartier has used Otta slate in 50 of its stores. Minera has also delivered slates to the Louvre art gallery in Paris as well as 10 000 square metres for the new airport in Leipzig. In 2003 the Boston Public Library won the prize for the best façade in the USA from the architecture organisation the AIA. Tautra Mariakoster in Frosta was deemed the Year’s Best Building in 2006.
Norwegian slate is a very hard-wearing material. Geologically, Norwegian slate types are quartzite and phyllite slates, which are several hundred million years old. As a result of these deposits the slates are a well-known product with a long tradition in Norway. Norwegian slate products also stand for quality, which is to a large extent superior to most comparable products.
Minera has also developed a brushing technique for slate. The brushed slates are fantastic to walk on and beautiful to look at. They are also much easier to wash, as the edges of the slates are smoothed down. This technique makes the slates even more suitable for indoor use.
